Pit Stop in Provence

Why did I want to go to Avignon? Well, originally it was because I
knew a song about it called "Sur le pont d'Avignon" (On the Bridge of
Avignon.) I don't remember when and where I learned this song, all I
remember is that on the bridge of Avignon they are supposedly "dancing
all night long" (I can say it in French, but I have no idea how to
spell it.)

Anyway, it turns out that Avignon is a REALLY great place to visit,
and not just for the bridge. We got here last night around 9pm, and it
was so warm out (70-75 degrees) it immediately won my love. Avignon is
enclosed by medieval walls, and is full of cute little sports bars and
restaurants. Not a single tourist was in sight.

After checking in, we ended up at this bar watching a soccer game
(Monaco vs Marseilles) with a bunch of locals, which was a great
introduction to the city.

Although upon first glance Avignon appeared to be the provincial
French town of your imagination, as the night went on it began to
remind me more of San Luis Obispo. Turns out, Avignon is a University town, and so its not surprising that it behaves like one too. I
absolutely love it.
