So last night was completely amazing - Dan made it ok, not even too
late - he showed up around 8:30-9. I had bought a bottle of Sangiovese
for the occasion, so we stayed up so late talking, walking through the
town, and catching up.
around 11 it started raining . . . story of my trip. There isn't a lot
to do in Venice, but you spend so much time lost it sort of takes you
awhile to do things anyway, so it works out. We randomly found this
museum that built models from Leonardo Di Vinci's drawings, made
baguettes out of roasted peppers, and got so lost we ended up in the
outskirts of the city in some industrial zone. I am really glad to not be here alone, Venice doesn't seem like a
place where it's easy to meet people or go hang out with people - and
it is SO easy to get lost. There aren't really a lot of "coffee
shops," and in bars, the counters almost look like the checkout of a
liquor store. When you go in, you'll see people in there drinking, but
it almost is sort of uninviting, like you feel like you're walking in
on the owner and his friends. It's very odd. It's extremely beautiful,
and its really one of those places where the fun is just in "being."
