Beautiful Florence

While being harrassed by flower vendors and other street peddlers and
wading through the stream of tourists in Venice I began to wonder if I
was going to like Italy. Florence is a completely different and
amazing experience.

Yes the street vendors are still pushy, yes there are still tourists,
but Florence has a really powerful presence that quickly pushes those
distractions into the background.

At first glance Venice was more scenic and "pretty" but Florence has a
much more understated, graceful, and classical beauty that won me over
after the first day. Although it took a little bit longer to see it,
Florence is amazingly beautiful - just like everyone says. The
architecture, streets, piazzas and statues are so full of the spirit
of the Italian Rennasaince, and you can just see and feel it
everywhere you go. In spite of the city's modernity, it still feels
very old.

In spite of all the traveling I've done at this point, Florence is
probably the first city I've been in where I can really say I felt its
age.
