People told me that Munich was synonymous with Beer before I arrived, and I thought I got
what they were saying, but I had no clue.
On a nice day in Munich, everyone young and old comes out to drink beer in the parks. And that's about it.
These gardens can hold thousands of people - many in town
hold 5k+. In most gardens it is really easy to get your beer and walk
out into acres of park, with beautiful landscaping and trees, so calling it a "beer garden" is not a joke.
and children everywhere in the gardens. The presence of the kids really cracked me up
- apparently Munich folks take their drinking so seriously that they
want to make sure the kids are entertained so parents can stay. As I garden-hopped today, what really struck me was that the people
weren't wasted. I think if there was a place in a giant park where
Californians could go to drink it would be a complete shit show.
These people, although a little more friendly than maybe they would be
otherwise, didn't seem drunk at all! They were polishing off their one liter
steins of beer and then having normal conversations with people around
them. Even the old grandmas. It was hilarious.
