I thought it would be a lot easier to say - "Oh! I think I'll up and go to Lyon, Bratslavia, Nice, insert nearby small village tomorrow" - but I am finding out that when it comes to booking accomodations, nothing is easy in August. It's the height of European tourist season, and unfortunately, it pays to plan ahead.
I had a craving to skip Berlin in favor of Rothenberg, but the only vacancy was charging 140 Euros a night. A little bit out of my budget. After this idea fell through, I thought I might as well make some tenative bookings for the rest of the month, because there are a lot of small towns I want to visit in Germany and France, and I want to make sure I'm not paying the big bucks to do it.
So - officially, here is the rest of my August Itinerary.
- August 11-13: Berlin
- August 14-17: Prague
- August 18-19: Vienna
- August 20-23: Munich
- August 24: Rothenberg
- August 25-27: Lucerne
- August 28-29: Lyon
- August 30-31: Avignon
- Sept 1: Nice
- Sept 2: Meet Dan in Venice!
I know it's not as travel-whimsical, but if I want to make a change, I am free to try. After unsuccessfully spending 3 hours on the computer last night, I'm down to have a little bit of travel security.
