The French winemaker didn't speak English but his son did, and he
translated so charmingly, and with such a heavy French
accent, that I never want to forget how he described the life cycle of the
grape vine. I've done my best to reproduce it here.
the way I might use the word "like") they are like the people, yes? In the beginnining, from the time of the birth to 20 or so, we have
uhhh all the quantity, and they produce, uhhh, like teenagers, yes,
but uhhhh, the quality, is not so good. From 20-60, we have a good mixture of uhh the production and the
quality. There is a balance there as the vine is reaching, uuuhhhh,
how you say mature adults? From 60 till 100, we have no so much quantity, but uhhhh the quality it
is the best. Like the same for the human, no?" So there you have it. Apparently we have a lot more in common with
wine than I ever guessed.
