It's our last night in Florence and Dan and I started looking at what we want to do in Rome. This was immediately an overwhelming and daunting task. People say this all the time, but it seems like we would need at least a week to even scratch the surface of Rome. We started looking at Vatican City, and there is a whole day's worth of things to do there! If we had planned things ahead of time, we could have gotten tickets to hear the Pope speak, which he does every Wednesday, but since we're flying by the seat of our pants a bit in Italy, we'll be missing that this time around. We're hoping to see St. Peter's Cathedral (apparently there is another petrifying and claustrophobic set of stairs to climb for an awesome view) the Sistine Chapel, and the historic area with the Pantheon and the Colosseum. Once you move past the 2 biggest sites and start looking at all the museums, gardens, art galleries, famous squares, famous buildings, places to eat, etc etc, it's really easy to become overwhelmed. There seems to be no way to focus your energies, because there is just so much to do. Italy is quickly becoming a place we'll need to come back to, many times, and I am sure Rome is only going to solidify this opinion. This place is just so amazingly old and diverse - this is the first time in the trip I am leaving places feeling like they're "half-finished" but in a way it's good - it gives me a goal for future trips.
