A Charming but Expensive Detour

I had thought it would be nice to have some time out of the big city so I booked a night in Rothenberg. Very cool.Very far out of the big city.

I noticed this morning as I prepared for the train that my hotel was not exactly in Rothenberg,
but in a little town called Adeslhofen. I figured - no problem - I'll
taxi to the hotel and find the bus schedule from there.

But Adeslhofben, and Rothenberg - aren't exactly like that. I am way
out on a farm, and it's a $20 cab ride to get into town. There is no
bus, because when school is out of session . . . well . . . there is
no bus!

Luckily, after switching trains 3 times, catching a taxi, and showing
up at my place, the woman who owns the guest house offered to drive me
back into town this afternoon for free.

Tomorrow she is making me fried eggs and toast at exactly 8:31, and
when I came back this evening, I noticed that she had posted my train
schedule for me on the door. She's also taking me to the train for 15
euro (saves $5 from the taxi.) It's the most adorable thing I have
ever experienced.

So . . . in one 24 hour period I am spending $60 on extra taxi fees,
but it might be worth it to wake up to a fresh breakfast on a German
farm, to have a clean shower, and to have a bedroom all to myself!
