Because my next couple of posts will probably involve whining about the challenges of traveling in Patagonia, I thought I'd share a happy post about food! Because everyone loves food--and it's awesome in Patagonia!
In Buenos Aires, we sadly had a lot of hit-or-miss meals--except for La Cabrera--which was to die for, and Milion, which had some great tapas and wine.
In Uruguay, the best thing on the menu was the Chivitos, and in Punta del Diablo, they make the "fast food" version of those.
Chivitos: ham, filet mignon (churrasco beef), with mozzarella, tomatoes, mayonnaise, black or green olives, and commonly also bacon, fried or hard-boiled eggs and ham.
Fortunately, things have improved since getting to Patagonia. The food here is all about "La Parilla" (the grill.) At La Marca, for 129 pesos, you can get all-you-can-eat lamb, chicken, and steak off the grill, and it comes with salads and veggies.
Steaks, of course, are awesome here, but lamb is absolutely killer, as well as a meat/lentil stew called locre. And then I've found (since Dan can't drink) that Patagonia wine is great! Not only are there great malbecs, but also some good sauvignon blancs and pinot noirs.
